The investment rationale for gold is as irrational as the rationale for religion. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t respect something that has been believed in by so many for so long. For gold investors, the benefit of protection from a breakdown in the socio-economic system, a collapse of the U.S. dollar or any other number of worst-case scenarios is far greater than profits lost by not investing in stocks or bonds.
