An amateur treasure hunter has stumbled across what is thought to be the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon treasure ever discovered, archaeologists say.

In England, since 1995 the law states that anything found more than 300 years old or containing more than 10% precious metal be deemed “treasure” and automatically belongs to the Queen i.e. the state so that it will never leave the the country. The law further states that the artifact shall be given a fair? value by an independent evaluator and this amount shall be paid by museums to the finder and the owner of the property on which it was found. So everyone wins and it is in the best interests of the finder

He is one lucky son of a gun. I’ve been avidly searching for gold and have found zilch.

It’s such a good rule that anything found where it originated stays in that country. Sometimes science may deem it necessary for it to leave the country, but all in all, the integrity of the artifact will always be where it was from.
