As an Investor I see the decline in the value of the US dollar as a harbinger of inflation. Gold acts as a hedge against inflation because of its property as a store of value as opposed to currencies like the US dollar. Thus, as inflation rises, people buy gold as a hedge against inflation and, ultimately, the decline in the value of the currency.
