I lived in Colorado Springs for many years and have spent a lot of time in the Cripple Creek area, and since most mining in that area is HARDROCK, I have worked the Platte and Tarryall rivers nearby. There is a lot of fine gold in both the Platte and Tarryall rivers.
The biggest problem there is, that things are getting so restrictive(prospecting wise), it is difficult to find a place to work.
Farther up the Tarryall, there is an area called TWIN EAGLES. You have to pay 3 dollars a day to camp or park there, but check out the back side of the area(to the north) and you can always pan out a bit of fine gold.
I always wanted to put a dredge in there, but warned against even considering it.
